Adding Patterns to Images
How do people get those nice dash lines or x's on their graphics/blends? Follow this tutorial to see how you can
add your own patterns to images!
Step One: Finding A Pattern
Find a pattern. You can click here for patterns on our
site. Once you have a pattern, open up Photoshop and open up the file. Sometimes it would appear reallly really tiny,
so you might want to click View>>Zoom In.

Step Two: Finding An Image
Open up an image you want to have a pattern on. For this tutorial I will be using this image of Ashlee Simpson.

Step Three: Making the Pattern Usable
Now that you have everything open, click on the pattern and go to Edit>>Define Pattern.

A pop up will appear and will look something like below. Press OK.

Step Four: Using the Pattern (finally)
Click on the Paint Bucket Tool
and switch the Fill to Pattern instead of Foreground.

Now beside the Fill, click on the Pattern box and find your pattern listed. Click on your pattern.

Go to your image and then go to Layer>>New>>Layer.. to create a New Layer. A pop up appears, press OK. Use the Paint
Bucket Tool and click on your image. You will notice that the WHOLE entire picture is covered up with
the pattern. Don't worry. Now, go to the right and make sure you're still on Layer 1, which was the new
layer that you just created. Change the Opacity of the layer lower, perhaps to 30% depending on your
image. It looks faded, and your image is less covered.

If you are using an image of a person like in this tutorial, you would probably want to erase those x's from Ashlee
Simpson's face, right? Use the Eraser Tool and start erasing the parts you dont' want covered.
