Website Help

Need a little help? Don't know where to get started on creating a website? Read this important guide to help you create a decent website =] Tips on what to do with your layouts, advertising, help, etc. Enjoy, and hope you find it helpful. Its worth reading if you don't have a clue of where to begin.

Creating the Site

First of all, find a free web hosting site, such as Freewebs. If you don't know much HTML, we suggest that you start off as Easy Mode. Trust me, its easier and once you get the hang of your site and a bit of HTML, you can progress and soon make your own HTML site. Don't be too hasty and think that you can learn EVERYTHING in just a few days. You need time.

If you know a bit of HTML, start your site simple. Make some nice, decent content for visitors and tag at other people's sites as well. If your site is kind of new, don't expect to have a WHOLE LOT of visitors coming, you need to advertise, affiliate with sites, etc.

Learning HTML

Find and gather up sites that help you in HTML, codes, etc. Sites include Lissa Explains, Saruna, Vintage Melody, etc. Why, even Twinzworld has great tutorials =] You can also politely ask web owners for small help. Its extremelyannoying to be messaging someone on IM and begging them to make you a layout, help you on their site, etc. Be specific on what you want them to help you on. Your entire site? Don't count on it. Webowners are busy with their life and their own site as well as other visitors who have questions or need help. Don't expect them to help you make a layout or help code your website if they aren't willing to. You know, it doesn't hurt to learn a few things on your own. Read tutorials and follow them and its not that hard if you practise.

Trust us, we've had alot of visitors come to our site and beg us to make a layout!! Its frustrating. If you want a good website, usually its best if you made most of the things on it by YOURSELF. By YOU. So don't go annoying webowners for big, big help. Simple questions are fine. Some sites have Ask & Answer forms, contact forms, etc. Click here for Twinzworld Ask & Answer.

We don't mean to be harsh, but honestly, if you try to at least learn a few things on your own, theres a good feeling inside of you. Its like, "Hey! I just learned something new!" We're not saying that webowners are rude and aren't willing to help, but you shouldn't sound desperate and beg, try being polite and ask nicely. Accept the fact if they cannot help you or if you don't understand an answer. Hey, why not find your answer in Google? x]

Don't break Rules!

There's a reason why webowners have rules on their websites. You're suppose to follow them, and there are consequences if you don't. Relate it to real life. If you committed a crime, well, you'll be in trouble. What would happen in the online-world? Usually the webowners will place you and your site on their Wall of Shame, "Jail" sites, etc. If they're nice enough, they'll give you a second chance.

Always, always, always link back if you've used something from someone else's site. They will misunderstand and think that you've stolen their content, etc. Do not claim any content from someone else's site as your own. Do not redistribute someone else's graphics, content, etc and pretend its yours. It's wrong and the webowners will be very upset with you. It can result in your site frozen, or it'll just give you a bad reputation. So it doesn't hurt to read the rules on websites. Make sure you follow them!

Originality, Content, Layout

Don't you just love coming across sites that have unique content, personality, and layouts? It would be boring if EVERY site had the same stuff. That's why its always good to have original content. Come up with creative ideas, brainstorm, or find inspirations to help you on your site and layout. Use different color schemes that most sites don't really have. Just make sure the colors don't clash or hurt your eyes x_x so painful..

Be yourself!! Don't act or pose as someone or something that you aren't. Don't fake your personality and pretend to be a whole different you. Be friendly and helpful! Don't be rude or disrespectful. Visitors will probably dislike you and will not come back. Be a unique person/character, and be nothing but YOU.

Find something new to make or create. A ton of sites have glitters, update boxes, buttons, dolls, etc. Why of course your site is allowed to include those graphics too! But wouldn't it be cool if you came up with something new? Ideas such as Bobble Heads at Twinzworld (don't steal idea unless given permission) or Month Hearts at Twinzworld (again, don't steal idea unless given permission). Basically, think of brand new ideas!

Don't be disappointed if your site isn't accepted. Join directories, button rotations, etc. You can join Twinkle Directory by Twinzworld. Even posting comments can get you a few hits! Write nice comments. Don't just write, "Nice site, visit mine?" Its like you didn't bother to check out the website, all you wanted to do was make people come to your site. Expand on your sentence.. like, "Great website! The layout colors are wonderful. Love your blends!" something like that. It makes the webowners happy, and they'll probably click on your site link =] Plugging on plugboards helps gain a few hits too.
